Setting Up Utilities in Austin

Moving into a new home means setting up utilities. Here is who to call in Austin.

Electric

Within City of Austin limits, Austin Energy provides electricity. In some surrounding areas, you choose a retail electric provider, or a local cooperative serves the area.

Water and wastewater

Austin Water serves homes inside the city. Some areas outside the city have their own water providers.

Natural gas

Many homes use Texas Gas Service for natural gas. Not every home has gas.

Trash and recycling

Austin Resource Recovery handles trash, recycling, and compost for homes in the city.

Internet

Several providers serve Austin. Check availability at your address before you move, since service varies by street.

Tips

  • Start service a few days before you move in.
  • Ask your agent or the seller who currently serves the home.
  • Austin Energy and Austin Water bill together on one city utility bill.

If you are moving soon, I'm happy to help you get everything ready for day one.
