Zilker, Austin: A Neighborhood Guide

Zilker sits between South Lamar and MoPac, just south of Lady Bird Lake, and it is right next to the park it is named for. For a lot of people, it is the most Austin neighborhood there is.

The feel

Outdoor living is the center of everything here. Mornings at Barton Springs, evenings on the trail, and a few weekends a year when the whole city shows up for ACL Fest and the kite festival.

• Festival weekends bring crowds and traffic, so ask neighbors how they handle it.
• Check floodplain maps, especially near the creeks.
• New construction is common, so inspect carefully.
