Mueller, Austin: Living in a Planned Neighborhood
Mueller is one of the most unusual neighborhoods in Austin. It was built on the site of the former Robert Mueller Municipal Airport, which closed in 1999, and has grown into a master planned, mixed use neighborhood northeast of downtown.
The feel
Mueller was designed to be walkable, with homes close to parks, shops, and trails. You will see people walking dogs around the lake, biking the trails, and heading to the farmers market.
Housing
- Detached homes, many with front porches and rear garages on alleys
- Row homes and townhomes
- Condos and apartments
- An affordable homes program for qualifying buyers
Most homes are relatively new, and the neighborhood has architectural guidelines and an HOA.
Things to do
- Mueller Lake Park and the trails around the lake
- The Mueller Farmers Market
- The Thinkery, Austin's children's museum
- An Alamo Drafthouse and a growing retail district
- Dell Children's Medical Center is on site
Getting around
Mueller is a short drive to downtown and the University of Texas, with bike lanes and trails throughout.
Things to know before you buy
- Read the HOA documents and design guidelines.
- Ask about the tax rate, since it can differ from older neighborhoods.
- Lots tend to be smaller, so check yard sizes if outdoor space matters to you.
If walkability and newer homes are high on your list, Mueller is worth a tour. Reach out and I'll show you around.
