Outdoor Living in Austin: Porches, Patios, and Backyards

One of my favorite things about Austin is how much of life happens outside. A great outdoor space can be the best room in the house.

Shade first

Covered patios, pergolas, shade sails, and big trees make outdoor space usable in the heat.

Make it comfortable

  • Fans on covered porches
  • Comfortable seating that can handle the weather
  • Outdoor rugs and pillows
  • String lights for evenings

Cook outside

A grill station or outdoor kitchen keeps heat out of the house in summer.

Screened porches

Screened porches are one of the most loved spaces in Austin homes. They keep the bugs out and the breeze in.

Water

Pools, stock tank pools, and even a simple fountain help you cool off.

Plants

Native plants and planters soften hard surfaces and need less water.

When I tour homes with buyers, the backyard often seals the deal. If you are selling, staging outdoor space is worth the effort.
