Walkable Austin Neighborhoods
Austin is a driving city, but some neighborhoods let you walk to coffee, dinner, and the park. Here are a few I love.
Hyde Park
A flat grid with shops and restaurants on Duval and 43rd Street.
Clarksville
Small streets close to West Lynn, Pease Park, and downtown.
Travis Heights and South Congress
Walk to SoCo shops, restaurants, and Stacy Park.
Bouldin Creek
Coffee and dinner on South First and South Lamar.
East Austin
Many streets are walkable to restaurants, bars, and coffee shops.
Mueller
Designed for walking, with trails, parks, and shops throughout.
Downtown
High rise living with everything at your door.
How to test walkability
Walk the route yourself. Look at sidewalks, shade, and street crossings. In August, shade matters.
If walking to dinner is high on your list, I'll help you find the right street.
